Take your T-shirt pattern beyond basic and learn four different neckline techniques to add to your T-shirt repertoire.

About this Class

Join Portland-area sewing expert Marla Kazell by Zoom to learn four options for changing the neckline on a basic T-shirt pattern. Marla will share how to make pattern adjustments for a binding finish, a V-neck, a cowl neck, or a turtleneck. After this workshop, you’ll be inspired to make your T-shirt pattern over and over, with a different look every time. Practice making samples on your machine during the Zoom session or just sit back and take notes.

You can join the workshop two different ways:

  • Come to the Fiber Studio to join the Zoom with others
  • Join the Zoom from home on your own

  • Skill Level: Beginning, but this workshop is open to everyone. Participants in Sewing with Knits  are encouraged to join, and anyone interested in knits can benefit!
  • Students will be sent a Zoom link via email.

Students need to provide:

  • A notebook and pen/pencil for taking notes
  • Any completed T-shirts you’d like to show off or ask about
  • Optional: A T-shirt pattern you’d like to modify
  • Optional: Pattern paper, paper scissors, and tape in case you’d like to draft pattern changes during the Zoom (or use BARN’s)
  • Optional: Extra knit fabric, your sewing machine with polyester thread, 70/10 needle for knit, 70/10 twin needle for knits, and sewing tools to make samples.

None for the class, but if you're reserving a BARN sewing machine, you must have completed any session of Learn How to Use the Fiber Studio Sewing Machines or Orientation to Fiber Sewing Machines.
