Be stylin’ by creating your own look! Design and sew a baseball cap and trucker hat just for you. We’ll start class with an orientation to our new BARN sewing machines, and then we’ll pick fabrics, cut the patterns, and sew and individualize your caps. After your first hat, you’ll learn how to adjust the pattern to fit your own head—or someone else’s—and make additional variations for a hat that’s uniquely yours.
Note: this class is not about embellishing existing caps. We’ll be sewing caps from scratch. A little sewing experience is helpful but not required. The sewing machine orientation will teach you to thread your machine and practice a straight stitch. Students are encouraged to bring woven fabrics and materials from home to repurpose. Old jeans, shirts, khaki and canvas pants or jackets, and some home-decorating fabrics will work great. BARN will provide additional supplies including stabilizers, thread, hook and loop tape (Velcro), ribbon, and many materials for embellishment such as beads, embroidery floss, buttons, and fabric pens.
