This six week class is designed to bring the young novice machinist up to speed for using the basic tools of a machine shop. We will cover the following topics:
Proper layout of parts using Calipers, Micrometers squares, and hight gauge. Locating, center punching, and drilling and reaming of holes on flat and cylindrical material.
How to cut threads using taps and dies.
The construction and use of Jigs and fixtures.
Proper safe use of the milling machine covering set up and locating surfaces.
Proper cutter selection.
Cutting slots and recesses.
Precision alignment and drilling of holes.
How to setup to do repeatable operations.
Proper safe use of the Machinist lathe covering set up and locating surfaces.
Turning an object down to a specific diameter.
Boring out the center to a specific diameter.
How to set up to do repeatable operations.
