Golden and crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside: perfectly fried chicken is an art. In this hands-on class Chef Drew Flanders will show you how to master it, using a simple cast-iron skillet. You’ll break down a whole bird, and learn the secrets of how to marinate, season and fry it. You’ll also make authentic sides such as Summer Succotash and biscuits made from scratch. At the end of the day we’ll all sit down to enjoy a delicious meal and give thanks to the rich traditions of southern home cooking.
Instructor bio: Chef Drew Flanders grew up with two Southern grandmothers and in 2005, just as Hurricane Katrina blew through, moved to New Orleans, his “spiritual hometown.” He cooked at various restaurants in America’s greatest food city, and he loves any culinary opportunity to go back to his Southern roots. He is an instructor at the Seattle Culinary Academy and was Program Manager at FareStart in Seattle.
