Cooking From The Farmer's Market

Join Chef JJ Johnson of Wanderlust NW Catering Company for a shopping tour of the Bainbridge Island Farmer's Market. We will partake in a walking tour of the market, meeting some of the farmers who produce our amazing fruits and vegetables, then meet back at the BARN kitchen for a hands-on cooking class using the fresh produce we found. We'll be turning these seasonal market treasures into a meal, without relying on any recipes!

We will begin at the farmers market. Please meet chef JJ and Billee Gearheard at the entrance of Bainbridge Performing Arts (BPA) at 200 Madison Ave N at 9:00 AM. Look for Billee that will be wearing a red BARN apron.

Chef JJ will guide the class in how to approach each ingredient, which technique makes the most sense, and how to cut, season, and cook each individual item. At the end of class we'll share a beautiful meal full of delicious, colorful, and healthy local ingredients! 

There will be an additional materials fee of $15, added to the cost of the class when you register.  

About the Instructor:
"Locally-born & free range" Chef JJ Johnson spent his formative years cooking in top Seattle-area restaurants such as Campagne, Place Pigalle, Matt's in the Market, Tilth, &I1 Bistro. He continued his professional cooking career in private homes & yachts, then ran a popular cooking school at Whole Foods Market in Bellevue. After a 3-year "working vacation" on Maui, as the head Chef at O'o Farm on the slopes of Haleakala, he moved back to the slightly colder isle of Bainbridge.

Chef JJ has spent the last few years creating local farm-to-table cuisine, first signing on as Chef de Cuisine of the flagship Hitchcock Restaurant in Winslow, then opening Cafe Hitchcock in downtown Seattle as Executive Chef. He now runs Wanderlust NW Catering Co., offering private in-home and yacht chef services, taco pop-ups, and catering for wineries, private dinner parties and other special events.
